     About SoCal ATA

Africa Travel Association, established 1975, is one of the very few NGOs that provides benefits on both sides of the Atlantic.

Here, on this side of the Atlantic, ATA provides the travel industry - the retail travel agents, tour operators, airlines and cruise lines, the access and insights to new business, new destinations and new travel products to sell to the ever-expanding leisure U.S. travel market. With products which in general have a higher yield and higher commissions per each sale.

For the Africa side our work in sending tourists, our clients, to Africa means a vast economic benefit to the Continent - the World Bank calculates that international tourism to Africa surpasses the loans and foreign government grants in most of the tourist countries of Africa.

On the compassionate, social responsibility, the person-to-person level, every dollar your clients spent in Africa is maximized 3 to 4 times - it is called the multiplier effect - that means that the one dollar they spent on buying a souvenir the artisan goes and spends for what she needs, and then the merchant uses that dollar to buy from the local farmer, and so on - and that is direct in the hands of the people! In fact your Africa sale has helped that village, the same way that all the "Help Africa" charitable driven organizations are trying to do. Just calculate what one of your clients may spend directly during their Africa stay, you may find that YOU are responsible for sending over $50 to that local economy, that will be multiplied and become $150 or more, much more than most individual charitable donations that are made. - you become an agent of economic development - that is what tourism does in Africa.

The ATA work and accomplishments with many of the African governments has led the African Union, the government body of 53 African nations, to form an AU/ATA alliance for the development and promotion of sustainable tourism for the Continent, making ATA the principal and official driving force in Africa's tourism development.
