elcome to the Professional Art Therapist Locator
The Professional Art Therapist Locator is an interactive, electronic directory of Professional Art Therapists working in Southern California. It is user-friendly and searchable by name, area of expertise, and zip code or city. The Professional Art Therapist Locator can help you find one or more qualified Art Therapists in your area.
Art Therapists work with children, adolescents, and adults and provide services to individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities. They often work as part of clinical teams, in settings that include mental health, rehabilitation, medical and forensic institutions; community outreach programs; wellness centers; schools; nursing homes; corporate structures; art studios; and independent practices. Art Therapists are skilled in the application of a variety of art modalities (drawing, painting, clay, and other mediums). The art process is used to assess and treat mental health issues such as anxiety, depression or other mental health issues, relationships, trauma, addiction, loss, and domestic violence and abuse. Professional Art Therapists also conduct clinical research and provide consultations to allied professionals.
Art therapists are trained in both art techniques and psychotherapy and hold a masters degree in art therapy or a related field. To learn more about the professional credentialing of art therapists, visit the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) website.
All therapists listed in the Professional Art Therapist Locator are members of the Southern California Art Therapy Association (SoCalATA) and agree to abide by the Ethical Standards of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA). Art Therapists are licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT's), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW's), or other mental health professionals who keep client conversations confidential with the exception of disclosures that are required or permitted by law.
Once you locate one or more Art Therapists that fit your criteria, we recommend that you conduct a phone or personal interview to find the one with whom you feel comfortable and have a connection.
We acknowledge that it takes strength to seek out assistance in dealing with life's difficulties. We hope you find healing within our creative community.
